A living room with a pleasant, preferably large fireplace sounds like a dream. If you want to install one in your home, it’s helpful to know what you need to do to properly layout this space. The wood and ashes that are in the fireplace mean that the living room can become a mass of dirt and clutter. So how do you create a tidy space that will also serve its purpose brilliantly?

Fireplace in the living room, or a dream space for cool evenings

Imagine a cozy interior, where the fireplace is pleasantly burning, giving warmth and an unusual atmosphere. All household members will absolutely love this place, especially if there is order and tidiness in it. Therefore, it is worth taking care of the proper arrangement of the various elements. First of all, in the area around the fireplace should be a functional and sufficiently large ash scoop. This will allow you to conveniently pick out what may spread around the room. It’s worth doing this as often as possible to avoid a mess.

For this, you can get a large lockable basket, which is worth placing near the fireplace. Remember, however, not to put hot objects in it and to clean it regularly. For this, you will need a poker, with which you can conveniently move the unburned wood to keep the flame stoked. However, this is not the end of the story. Fireplaces that have a lockable door work very well. This allows the heat to spread pleasantly around the room, and the ashes do not fall out onto the floor. It is also very useful to have a dustpan and a small brush with which to sweep up the dust that is on the floor. It is worthwhile to have separate items that will be used only for this purpose. That way, when sweeping the floor in another room, you won’t spread ash on the floor in the kitchen or bathroom, for example.

Now the most important element, that is, the storage of wood. It is a good idea to keep the larger amount of cut pieces in a dry place, for example, in the basement or garage. It is best to set up a special metal rack near the fireplace, where you can stack the wood evenly on top of each other and use it as needed. Such an arrangement will certainly allow you to keep the room with the fireplace neat and tidy.

Where to place the fireplace?

It is also worth remembering to place the fireplace properly, so that it will make the whole room a pleasant atmosphere, and it will be warm enough. The best thing to do is to place it in the central point of the room close to the sofa and a comfortable armchair. Then everyone will be able to use it while watching TV or playing board games. It is worth mentioning that the fireplace can also give heat to rooms that are located on a higher floor. This can save you money on heating, especially if you source the wood yourself.

However, keep in mind that only dry wood that has not been varnished or treated can be used for burning. So broken furniture or other items are out of the question. Heat-treated varnish is highly toxic and highly pollutes the environment.
