Caviar is considered a luxury product. The fashion for caviar, however, led to the establishment of fish farms where it is obtained, making it available to almost everyone.

Caviar – what is it?

Caviar is the eggs of fish. The roe is seasoned with sea salt. Nowadays, most of the caviar that you can buy in stores comes from special farms where the fish are given hormones to stimulate ovulation. When the fish produces eggs, they are harvested surgically. The fish from which the eggs are taken do not die, they produce eggs repeatedly.

Types of caviar

Is the roe of every fish caviar? No, caviar can be called only the roe obtained from specific species of fish from the sturgeon and salmon family. Depending on the species of fish from which the eggs are obtained, we distinguish:

  • black caviar – it is obtained from fish of the sturgeon family. In the case of black caviar, it is believed that the larger the eggs, the better the caviar. The whitebait caviar is considered the most delicious and is one of the most expensive types of black caviar;
  • red caviar – obtained from fish of the salmonidae family. The smaller the eggs, the better the caviar. The most popular is the caviar obtained from gorbuś – this fish is the most prolific and therefore produces the most eggs. Caviar prepared from gorbuca roe is soft and versatile in taste. If you are looking for something more distinct, it is worth trying the caviar prepared from the roe of kidney fish. This caviar is definitely more distinct in taste, slightly spicy;
  • white caviar – obtained from albino sturgeon. The price of white caviar is so high that it is sometimes called white gold.

Caviar properties

Caviar is a real vitamin and mineral bomb! In its composition we find, among others:

  • vitamin A,
  • b vitamins, that is B1, B2, B3, B6, B9 and B12,
  • vitamin D,
  • vitamin E,
  • zinc,
  • phosphorus,
  • iodine,
  • magnesium,
  • calcium,
  • iron,
  • sodium,
  • potassium.

Such a content of vitamins and minerals makes caviar has a beneficial effect on the skin – as evidenced by the fact that it is often used by the cosmetic industry. In addition, caviar is attributed with positive effects on the nervous and circulatory systems, as well as the immune system.

How to eat caviar?

Caviar is more of an appetizer or side dish. Caviar is usually served with blintzes or toasts. Some people simply bite into it with bread, and still others serve caviar with potato pancakes.

Do you want to add a touch of chic to your house party? Serve the caviar like in a gourmet restaurant! Put crushed ice on a glass platter, put caviar on it, garnish with lemon quarters, and put bread next to it. The effect is guaranteed!

How about pizza with caviar? It sounds surprising, but it tastes delicious! Prepare a pizza dough according to the recipe you use every day. The secret is in the toppings. Spread hot baked dough with sour cream and lemon sauce, sprinkle with chives and cover with slices of smoked salmon. Top the cake with caviar, preferably red, as it will perfectly match the smoked salmon. Serve immediately after preparation. Despite appearances, caviar with warm cake tastes delicious.

You should try several options and decide which way of eating caviar suits you best.
